When guys get their hair cut, why does the barber put that white paper around thier neck?

So hair doesn't get on and in their clothes.

It helps prevent cut hair from getting down our shirts. Not only is it a physical barrier, but hair also adhers to it.





Follow up: I just read jOE r's answer. And it makes perfect sense. The part of the patron's bare neck which the paper covers would make contact with the tie that holds the cape to his neck.
